About MacNeal Hospital
MacNeal Hospital is part of Vanguard Health
Systems. We are a 427 licensed bed facility
with values that include; Safety, Excellence,
Respect, Accountability, Integrity and Innovation.
Since 1918, MacNeal Hospital has provided health
care to communities throughout the near west
and southwest suburbs of Chicago.
In alignment with our values, we purchased
the Statit
piMD and PPR
products to assist with our commitment to on-going
quality performance. The products were implemented
in mid-January 2010. As many existing Statit
users know, this is a powerful product that
assists key leaders and teams with analysis
and action based intervention.
Implementation
Our first attempt at this new analysis tool
was related to our extensive fall prevention
project. Like many healthcare organizations,
we collect ample amounts of key clinical indicators
related to inpatient falls (for example: nurse/patient
ratio at time of fall, mental status of patient,
use of interventions like bed alarms and side
rails, etc.). Although there are a variety of
methods to summarize data in other types of
software, Statit-piMD has been the most powerful
method to present outcomes to key leaders.
MacNeal Hospital became the first facility
within Vanguard Health System to begin the inpatient
fall dashboard development. This new method
of fall reporting will enable Vanguard's corporate
team to see outcomes related to inpatient falls
for all facilities, markets and for the system
over all. This new dashboard will assist leaders
in adopting best practices across the system.
Note: The data below is sample data - targets
and alarms have been adjusted to better demonstrate
functionality of the product. The data below
does not represent actual hospital outcomes.

Training
To assist with the dashboard development, the
Statit Support Team spent many hours assisting
with indicator development. At MacNeal, we created
a variety of different indicators in a Midas+
extended user area. Since we developed these
extended user fields prior to the acquisition
of Statit, we had to give thoughtful consideration
to the best method to report each different
type of response (for example, Yes/No, single-select
and multi-select). When requested, the Statit
Support Team quickly scheduled WebEx sessions
to address all our questions and concerns. It
was extremely helpful that the person who assisted
us had extensive experience with Midas+. They
were able to quickly answer all questions related
to indicator counts, profiles and auto views
and provide insight regarding how to best report
each indicator via Statit piMD. These scheduled
WebEx's made it quick and easy for MacNeal staff
to understand details related to Statit piMD
indicator development. I personally appreciate
their willingness to explain in detail why certain
indicators must be developed a particular way.
After many WebEx sessions and phone calls,
we have created a dynamic and powerful inpatient
analysis tool that utilizes the "Indicator
Performance by Class" view, drill-downs
to patient level detail, and a Falls Scorecard.
Thanks to Statit's reliable customer service,
we have acquired the detailed knowledge to move
forward and to continue building other important
patient safety indicators and scorecards.
Summary
We appreciate Statit's commitment to continuous
training and support. Often after a product
is implemented, you might wonder, will they
be back? The Statit team has never left.
