written by Tom Simas
With apologies to Jerry Garcia and the Grateful
Dead, "...what a long, strange trip it's been!" From our
humble beginnings to our current reality: a
strong and prestigious customer base; a performance
improvement solution set that addresses
enterprise dashboards, scorecards and trend
reporting throughout your organization; as well as
Physician Profile & Review, Root Cause Analysis and
much, much more, we have truly come a long, long
way. We have received hundreds of congratulatory
messages together with many questions. Most questions
could be summarized into a few. I will do my best
to answer each of these.

| Physician Profiling: Overcoming
Data Challenges |
|
There are several challenges that need
to be overcome when trying to automate
the generation of physician profiles
electronically. In our example, we're going to create a
profile to be used to assess performance for ED
physicians on Heart Failure patients. Included in the
profile will be various HF measures including Core
Measures, LOS, Cost, Charges and Patient
Satisfaction.
Following is a list of challenges that
need to be overcome before we can automate the creation
and viewing of this profile:
- Profile indicators coming from
different data sources
- Different data sources identifying
physicians inconsistently
- The need for a consistent way of
labeling physicians within a profile
- Managing peer groups for
comparisons
Statit has worked closely with our customers
to understand these challenges and has developed the Statit
Physician Profile & Review product in response to
these issues. Read

| Choosing the Correct
Chart |
In a perfect world, choosing the correct chart
would be very simple. One would follow a process of
deciding on what questions need to be answered. Based on
that list of questions, one would decide what data needs
to be gathered. From those two exercises, the type of
chart that would be used would be pretty much
determined.
But, we are often in a situation
where we have already gathered the data and we need to
figure out which questions we can answer with
that data, and then which chart we can use to best
present
the data.
Let's take
a look at some
of the questions one might ask to identify the
correct chart for their needs...

Automating Quality
Reporting a
complimentary webinar |
|
Quality departments
within healthcare have a tough challenge to meet the existing
reporting needs of Quality Indicators throughout the organization.
And that challenge is going to become ever more difficult
as more and more processes are tracked and targeted for
improvement.
Key issues include:
- Many different indicators and metrics
need to be tracked
- Indicator data is EVERYWHERE
- Need both Operational and Executive
reporting
- Report generation needs to be automated
or it will consume many resources and/or be fraught
with errors
- Need objective (SPC) analysis techniques
- Different indicators available at different
times during the month/quarter
- Report distribution
- Closing the Process Improvement loop
Many organizations attempt to
perform this task using Microsoft Office products (Excel,
Word, PowerPoint), but these approaches require considerable
resources internally and have many shortcomings. There
is a much more effective way.
In this complimentary
webinar, we will explore the challenges associated
with Healthcare Quality Reporting, particularly with the
use of Excel as a reporting tool. We will look at Quality
reporting issues in healthcare and present a way to automate
reporting and distribute real time reports using your
Intranet, along with Statit
piMD™. Best of all, you can continue
to use your existing data residing in Excel, MS Access
and any other databases.
