Rare Events in Manufacturing |
by Guy W. March, Professional Services
Director, MIDAS+ Statit Solutions Group
As I travel around to
different manufacturing sites, I often see signs that
say something like "45 days without a lost time
accident". But what do these signs tell us? From the
standpoint of improving our accident rate, not a lot.
There is no history and no idea if we are improving or
getting worse. But what happens if we can monitor
this process with a Statistical Process Control Chart?
If we did, we would be on the road to process
improvement!
What
charts are best to use?

article, you may want to view

| Adding Cpm to a Process Capability
Chart |
Q: How is Cpm calculated and what's
the best use for it?
A: Drawing charts and
graphs with process data helps the audience to visualize
the behavior of the process. Visual representations
may be insufficient to make decisions about whether
the process generating the data is performing in a way
that meets various requirements.
