Performance Improvement and the Quality Department


Statit piMD provides a solution that allows Quality Departments to automatically measure and report on various performance indicators within the organization. Through use of a built-in Statit piMD report, it is now possible for the Quality Department to measure how their department is progressing in deploying Process Improvement methodologies.

Here is the current indicator information that is available within Statit piMD:


Administrators can click on any link and bring up the detailed list of indicators that meet the specific criteria. Once the indicator is selected, they are able to view and/or edit it. This ad hoc approach allows the Quality Department to readily access this information at any time.

Measuring Performance over Time
Statit piMD automatically records this information on a monthly basis so that the Quality Department can monitor any of these metrics over time. This info is useful for measuring the general utilization of Statit piMD over time, but is also extremely useful in measuring the rate at which Performance Improvement methods are being deployed within the organization. Typically, most healthcare organizations are using simple trending mechanisms (line charts and bar charts) before deploying Statit piMD. Switching over to Statistical Process Control charts requires some education and training, but is essential to allow organizations to focus on unusual variations within a process. So measuring analysis utilization is key to understanding progress in Process Improvement utilization. Even more importantly, how active are the Process Experts in monitoring, assessing and establishing Action Plans for improvement?

Here are some example indicators that allow Quality Departments to measure their progress over time:

  • Are Process Phases being deployed?
  • Are comments and/or assessments being entered by the Process Experts?
  • Are Action Plans being created?
  • What % of Indicators require the Process Expert to validate new data for a period?
  • Are Assignable Causes being used?
  • Are we utilizing Rare Event analysis?

Using this information, the Quality Department can define their own indicators and scorecard to measure progress on Performance Improvement deployment. This can help identify issues and allow the Quality Department to be proactive in leading the charge to make improvements through education, training, and procedure.
