Using Statit piMD Usage Reporting to Maximize User Success

Introduction
After undertaking the exercise of building key performance indicators and rolling them out to users, organizations often find themselves wondering how much use the system is receiving. We received many customer requests to provide information of this nature as part of Statit piMD—things like:

  • Who is using the system?
  • How frequently is the application being accessed?
  • How much time are users spending logged into the application?
  • Is anyone having trouble logging in?

Driven largely by these requests, Statit piMD 3.0 introduced a number of “Usage Reports” designed to quickly and accurately answer these questions for users who have been grated access to these reports. Following is a brief discussion of these reports and how they can be used to maximize user success with Statit piMD.

Usage Report
The report we will focus on here is appropriately enough called the "Usage Report". Here is an image showing some typical output from this report:

To Statit piMD users, this output will look familiar. If you are not a current user of Statit piMD, we recommend you view our 10 minute guided tour to familiarize yourself with the application.

In the lower left hand frame, there are a series of options that can be selected to customize the report output. Once selected, clicking 'Display' will display a table similar to the one seen in the right hand frame.

The first two columns of the report show information about the user. "User Name" is the user's full name (if specified), while the "Login Name" is the name they use to login to the system. The "Last Login" column shows the time the corresponding user last logged in, while the "Logins" column shows the total number of logins during the selected period. The final three columns show measurements of time - those being longest duration, average duration and total duration.

Analyzing this report can be helpful in identifying how well users are taking advantage of the system . For example, users with a smaller than expected number of logins might benefit from a reminder that the system is available. A larger number of logins but a relatively short average or total duration might be indicative of users who are making an effort to use the system, but are unsure as to the appropriate way to do so. These users might benefit from additional training. Of course, when these numbers fall within expected ranges this is an excellent indicator that the system is being used as intended.

Additional Reports
In addition to the Usage Report, there are additional reports that provide information such as:

  • Who is logged now - typically used to see who is currently using the system prior to making changes that might impact that user's session
  • License Denial - provides information on any failures to provide a report based on the lack of license availability. Often useful for System Administrators trying to decide if additional licenses are necessary.
  • Login Failures - Report that shows any login failures resulting from incorrect username and/or password. Can be useful both to identify people having trouble logging in and also to identify potential misuse of the system.

Statit is here to help. If you would like to learn more about this functionality, give us a call at (541) 752-4500 or send us an email at . We will show you how easy it is to create these reports while we are on the phone together.
